Some Wedding "Tradition" on this Traditional Day

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

I am enjoying a nice, quiet Thanksgiving Day (not cooking this year). I was pleasantly surprised to turn on the TV and see that Fiddler on the Roof is on. I came in just before the wedding scene and “Sunrise Sunset” (seen above in video). How appropriate!

I was about 8 years old when my parents took my brother and I to see the movie (after wearing out the original Broadway recording on LP), and it has been part of my top-10 movies list ever since.

The songs and story and many of the scenes continue to be the most indelible and endearing for me and have gained more significant meaning over the years in my own life-From growing up in a big extended Jewish family filled with “Tradition” in a small town to marrying my husband (who is not Jewish) and moving 3000 miles “Far from the Home I Love” and becoming a Wedding Planner in Las Vegas who would eventually plan a wedding featuring the famous “Bottle Dance” that hearkened to one of my favorite cinematic wedding scenes ever.

The movie about Tevye, a very poor Jewish milkman, and his 5 daughters in late 19th century Russia is about as close as I can get to imagining the life that my Jewish grandparents and great-grandparents lived in Lithuania and Poland.

This is a cinematic glimpse into the world where my family, my traditions, culture and values come from.

It is one of the most award winning, long-running and beloved musicals on broadway and film of all time and the “traditions” have been translated to every part of the world in countless languages.

Thank you for allowing me to share some of my traditions on this day of “Tradition”.

Wishing You a Happy Thanksgiving

Characters by Charles Schulz

Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge can’t believe that another year is almost over as Thanksgiving heralds the official countdown to the end of the year and we look to 2009.

Growing up in Canada, we celebrated Thanksgiving (and still do) on the 2nd Monday of October where the tradition focuses on giving thanks for the successful harvest which comes earlier due to the country being America’s northern neighbor. I think I vaguely remember my 2nd grade teacher telling us this in class but the excitement of Halloween was much more important. Anyway, after all these years I finally looked it up on Wikipedia. I DO love the internet!

Either way, the meaning of Thanksgiving is about giving thanks (and saying it too) so here goes…

  • I’m thankful that my family is happy and healthy; my husband, step-daughters, parents, brother, nieces and thank them for their love and support no matter what.
  • I’m thankful for the good and happy life my husband and I have worked hard to build together and for the wonderful personal and professional successes we and he have achieved this year.
  • I’m thankful I have a wonderful career as a Professional Wedding Consultant that I truly love and thank all my friends and colleagues in the business in Las Vegas and across the country that inspire me every day to do better.
  • I am thankful for the wonderful brides and grooms that give me the great honor and privilege to assist them in planning their wedding day. I sincerely appreciate all your thanks but to be able to be part of seeing your day and the wonderful memories created for you and your families is truly a gift.
  • I’m grateful for my friends; the ones I have known my entire life and the ones I just met who keep me laughing, kick my behind when I need a push and a shoulder when I really need one.
  • And I’m thankful to have the opportunity to be able to write this blog now for over a year and enjoy a little taste of the journalism career I didn’t pursue. But then again, everything always works out they way it is supposed to:).
  • And finally, I’m thankful and thank you for coming here to read my “Diary”. I hope that you have found something that helped you, inspired you or just made you smile and I’m thankful and looking forward for all the new and exciting topics I will write about in the future.

Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!

Holy Cake Balls Santa Claus!

White Chocolate “Cake Balls”: Image from Lovely Little Cakes

Dark Chocolate “Cake Balls”: Images from Bakerella

Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge thinks these are just a fabulous and easy holiday treat that are so easy to make and just waaay too easy to pop my way into Mrs. Clause sized clothes. But what a delectable journey.

I was browsing the BluDomain Blog (they helped me create my website) and always love the great products and ideas they find and came across this yummy little morsel in one of their “Countdown to the Holidays” posts.

So I clicked the link to a photographer’s blog which eventually led me to the yummy Bakerella Blog (which I know is a favorite of my friend Juliet Douglas of Green Orchid Events) for the recipe.

I have to thank the internet and TV for not yet developing “Smell-o-Vision” because sites like these would be too wonderfully unbearable.

These little “Cake Ball” treats would make a great addition to a holiday or holiday wedding sweet table served on a stick for a fun twist, as a take-away treat in a custom red velvet monogrammed to-go box with cups of fragrant cider or coffee.

Here is the recipe and it really is very easy and fun too (you get to mix cake and cream cheese frosting with your fingers).

The holidays are starting to look delicious already!

Fabulous Find-One Bridesmaid Dress Can Equal 12 Happy Bridesmaids

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge LOVES this fabulous, clever and stylish solution that can make every bride and bridesmaid happy!

Twobirds Bridesmaid is a company started by a very clever lady named Ariane Goldman who came up with the concept and design for her own wedding..

One dress, 10 different colors (and more surely to be on the way) and up to a dozen different ways of wrapping the dress to create completely different looks; halter, strapless, sleeved, a variety of different ways to style the back.

This is, in one word…BRILLIANT!

The dresses, made out of that fabulous combination of jersey and Spandex that travels and wears so well on everyone (including pregnant bridesmaids) is the perfect solution for a destination wedding. The dress comes in long, extra long and shorter lengths and also now a plus size and the best thing is, the dress comes in under $300.00.

When you consider how many different ways you can wear it after the wedding (yes, we have all heard that before, but this time you really would want to), that is an incredibly affordable dress!

And to coordinate even further, the company offers matching colored ties for the groomsmen!
