Floral Preservation Art Worth Holding on to Your Bouquet For!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I found these incredibly beautiful works of art and this wonderful floral preservation idea on the “Style Report” of Luxurious Wedding!

I seriously would put this artwork in the above picture right above my bed. It is just stunning!

The artist, Missy Cannon who has a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from University of Southwestern Louisiana, started her company, Flowers Into Paintings to fuse “Original Art with Nature” to preserve memories of her grandmother using the flowers from her funeral.

With her creative talents and much research on flower preservation, she turned the flowers into a beautiful painting that make the flowers “take on a new life” she says.

I can understand why the “Style Report” editors were so excited!

These beautiful paintings truly preserve the integrity of one form of art (the art of your floral designer and their creation of your beautiful bouquet) to respectfully evolve into another form of art which will be not only a cherished memory but also truly interesting; a worthwhile investment to place on your wall that is a pleasure to look at.

I know this will definitely appeal to you, my readers, who are brides and people with a real sense of Style!!!

I encourage you to visit Missy’s website and browse the galleries. You will truly be blown away by her work. Much of the work you see was created with flowers from real weddings, anniveraries, etc.

I certainly was inspired; so much so that I have every intention of commissioning one of Missy’s paintings when I turn my 10 year anniversary vow renewal bouquet over to her. I only have to wait until 2011!

Definitely consider “Flowers Into Painting’s” work if you are looking for a unique and beautiful rememberance of your beautiful day and your beautiful bouquet!

Say "I Do" to "Wedding Week" on The Food Network!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Weddings, even in this modern day are still family events and, no matter what part of the world you live in, a wedding is still cause for family and friends to celebrate and that means food! The wedding “banquet”, be it Chinese, Jewish, Italian, Thai or Indian, is one of the main focuses of the event in entertaining your guests. Food & beverage will also be about half of most couples’ wedding budgets.
With all the food trends that are impacting weddings these days, from “global” and “exotic” to “sustainable” and “organic” cuisines for example and the focus on the ever present statement piece; the Cake, it is no wonder that Wedding Week on The Food Network is always such a big hit with brides and grooms who are in the midst of their wedding planning.
Of course, I’m sure you will also find Hotel & Resort Catering Managers, Catering Companies, Restaranteurs, Pastry Chefs and Wedding Planners (yes, Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge included), tuning in too. We love this as much as you do!
So make sure to set your DVR (Digital Video Recorder) to FoodNetwork.com over the coming week as they feature a wide variety of Wedding inspired themes to both their regular programming (Duff Goldman, from Charm City Cakes has quite a lot of coverage this week & next on his show “Ace of Cakes” for example & there is an episode of “Unwrapped” dedicated to all things wedding.
All of this leads up to what the network calls “Wedding Day Saturday” with practically a full day of wedding programming. Click here to see the schedule.
Speaking of “specials”, I must confess that I love all the Wedding Cake themed “Food Network Challenge” shows. They are always so exciting, interesting and almost agonizing to watch as they create exquisite sugar masterpieces that boggle even the most creative minds.
Enjoy the shows and…
Have a Delicious & Stylish Day!

Wedding Concierge has reached "The Tipping Point"

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I got a pleasant surprise today in my inbox from my friend Andy Ebon of the Wedding Marketing Blog to tell me that I “had been blogged” and sure enough, Andy has featured me on his blog again and I could not be more proud about the content of his post.

In a nutshell, Andy referred to me reaching “The Tipping Point” by making all the right moves when it comes to marketing my company by consistently using my personal brand of style through my new business cards, my blog, and my new website and backing all that up with good old fashioned networking and just taking pride in my work and doing a good job.

The Tipping Point,by Malcolm Gladwell (a book I must check into now-I admit that Andy’s mention of it was the first time I had heard of it). Andy’s “plain English” definition is about as succinct as you can get.

I consider Andy a mentor and someone who I look up to on both a professional and personal level and who has taught me so much about the wedding business and more. So it is especially meaningful when I not only get complimented on the steps I am taking to improve my business, but in addition I am commended for doing a great job and referred to on his blog as an example of what to do right.

Thank you so much Andy & I promise to keep up the good work!

Then again, it doesn’t always seem like work when you do what you love and love what you do. And…”I Do”!

The Wedding Concierge Gets Tagged & "Gets Down"!

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Well, I thought I was finally under the radar when it came to being “tagged” for blog games, but apparently not.

One of my Coordinator’s Corner.com Wedding Planner friends, Kimberly Petyt of Parisian Events in Paris, France (yes, she really is “An American in Paris”!) found me & tagged me for the “embarrassing song” game. I’m to share 5 songs that I’m embarrassed to admit to others that I like and tell why.

Then I have to bring 7 more sucka’s down with me (Kimberly, I am using YOUR words because you said it so eloquently here, LOL).

What you don’t know Kimberly is that I secretly love anything that has to do with music so I love playing these little games (but only 1x) AND I love dancing to them too..all by myself…in my office! I better stop now before I lose all credibility,LOL;)
Ok, here goes…

“Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot: Yes, it’s rude & crude, but it sure gets MY “back” up off the chair & heck, it’s just fun. And if Friend’s Ross & Rachel & Cameron Diaz in Charlie’s Angels can shake it to that song, then so can I!

“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor from Rocky 3: I can’t help myself; it just makes me want to go and run on the beach with Sylvester Stallone. Mind you, I’m also a sucker for “Gonna Fly Now” & “Going the Distance”, both by Bill Conti & both used in pretty much every Rocky movie. Maybe I have “Rocky” on the brain because I am headed to Philadelphia this summer as I mentioned in an earlier post.

“I Want You Back” by N’Sync: My secret boy band crush (*blush*). Justin & the boys were so cute & that is just such a catchy tune. I’m boogying in my seat right now.

“Conga” by Miami Sound Machine: Oyey, Oyeh, Oyeh…I remember when that song came out & it was a standard at EVERY wedding I was at, but boy oh boy, did it get everyone on the floor, around the room & in a great mood. If you want to hear a great updated version, check out “Y-Tu Conga” that Gloria Estefan released on her “Greatest Hits, VolumeII”. You won’t be able to sit down, I promise you!

“Slow Ride” by Foghat: Visions of Seinfeld‘s Elaine & her scary-bad but hilarious dancing in my head. It’s almost like I feel I have to outworst her, HAHA! Great song though. I had too many choices here but just when you think these songs are embarassing, they get popular again in many movies with great soundtracks.

By the way, I could go on forever with way more than 5, but…the time has come to “tag” 7 more blogger friends (at least I hope you will still be after this). It is now time to pass the love on to you and get YOU to ‘fess up about your favorite but embarassing songs. This should be good!

Wedding Concierge wins 2nd Scholarship to attend Catering Conference!

Friday, April 18th, 2008

YO NACE!!
Sorry, I just could not help myself:)!
Well, I am very proud to announce that, for the second year in a row, I have won an educational schloarship through my amazing Las Vegas Chapter of NACE (National Association of Catering Executives) to attend my third National Educational Conference this year in Philadelphia, PA August 3-6.
YAY ME!
I am thrilled to be part of a great group of people from our Las Vegas chapter who are attending as well including other chapter member winners who were awarded these scholarships (full and partial) by donating time and services and more to our local chapter.
This year is the 50th Anniverary of the National Association of Catering Executives.
The conference will be the icing on a great year of anniversary celebrations with incredible seminars and speakers including celebrity Wedding Planner Mindy Weiss (I have met and heard her speak a few times in person and she is truly a class act!), great food of course and inspiration galore. Many of the topics will focus on the future of catering and event planning so I am excited to see just what “the future” will bring.
This is my first time visiting Philadelphia and I am looking forward to soaking in all that Philly Soul and brotherly love, both from my fellow NACE members and the Philly natives. I am also looking forward to seeing my friend and fellow wedding planner, the fabulous Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultant, Mark Kingsdorf, who is Philadelphia’s wedding planner star!
I also need to start training to try and climb up those famous ROCKY steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, LOL!
I always come back from these conferences pumped up and inspired with new ideas to help me be the best planner and business woman I can be and to share interesting and exciting ideas with you my readers and my clients.
I know this year will be no exception.
Have a Stylish Day!

Cell Phones & Wedding Cake-Not a Sweet Combination!

Monday, April 14th, 2008

I saw this post on GeekSugar.com today and felt compelled to comment.

I am a self confessed gadget junkie. I have a desktop, a laptop, a Blackberry, an iPod (planning on buying an iPod Touch this summer to feed my new You Tube addiction), etc., etc…

I think technology is the best thing to happen to weddings and couples planning weddings in the 21st Century.

Technology has the potential to bring us together with all of these amazing resources and inventions and what is more about bringing people together than a wedding, right?

But on the other hand, this wedding cake topper you see above represents to me the very flip (or maybe it should be “flip phone”) ugly reality of where technology can also take us; alienating inter-personal relationships, social skills devolving, and communicating with machines instead of with each other because it might seem easier and safer. It is sad to think that these very things that have the positive potential to bring us closer, if we let it get out of hand, can tear us apart.

I think Emily Post would have a fit if she were alive to see this.

This cake topper actually makes me angry to be honest! Just look at this “couple” if you can call them that. They are not even looking at each other and are self involved and talking to other people and this is supposed to go on top of their cake as a symbol of what THEIR relationship is to others who will see it?

I don’t even see it as a joke for those who will say they are just expressing and personalizing their techie geek side on their wedding day.

I am all for personalizing your wedding too! You can express your love of tech though in so many other ways-with edible cookie favors that look like your favorite cell phone with a picture of the two of you, snuggled in a hug together for example. Or put together an awesome, customized wedding website. Heck, even a second cake could be made to look like your phones.

I understand and sincerely appreciate the concept of “to each their own”, but on a day that is supposed to be about two people “coming together”, love, communication and being “as ONE”, this cake topper just does not CUT IT in this wedding planner’s opinion.

I really think that the people who are making and marketing this item got this one totally wrong.

I would love to hear your opinions on this.

Thanks in advance for chiming in and have a Stylish Day!!

The New Las Vegas Wedding Concierge Website is Coming Soon!

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

I have been keeping it secret for some time and this has been a real labor of love so I am so excited to finally share with you that my new website will be launching this April!

It is absolutely gorgeous (if I do say so myself) with themed and featured wedding galleries to show off stunning wedding images of all the talented photographers I have the pleasure of working with. Plus a video feature will come online a few months later to feature wedding highlights from the amazing video artists I am fortunate to collaborate with as well.

It is “state of the art” for sure but sooo pretty:) and definately takes the Las Vegas Wedding Concierge signature blue & white and platinum look to a whole new level of Style!

My website for computers that can’t take advantage of all the new website’s bells & whistles will still be available from the welcome page (see picture above) of my new site as well.

The new Welcome Page will also allow you to click on my picture and head right over here to my blog “Diary” to see what’s new and say “hello”.

I can’t wait to show it to all of you and the countdown begins…

Have a Stylish Weekend!
